The periapical process occurs at the tips of the roots of avital teeth, when the necrotic content of the root canal causes constant irritation and causes the appearance of a chronic infection. Apicotomy or resection of the tip of the tooth root represents about 50% of all surgical procedures in routine oral surgical practice.v
